Writing this post is difficult in the wake of the horrors, the triumph of Nature's power and the murderous wars unforgivably created by man  now taking place throughout the world. This activity of mine seems essentially cosmetic, verging on the insignificant and possibly indulgent. However, we must somehow continue to live with some degree of optimism, hope and continue to move forward creatively with love, even with humour, however unrealistic or perverse that may sound just now. One must somehow make the most of the hand of cards that the  lottery of life has dealt us as individuals.

Classical music is a consolation certainly but does not exhaustively redeem ....

This post is not exclusively about Chopin and music in Poland (although he was driven around Paris in the finest, stylish carriages and horses of the day). My other passion for classic cars strangely enough was/is a companion passion among many successful professional classical musicians such as Michelangeli and Karajan as well as numerous pop stars such as the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Freddie Mercury and the Dave Clark Five. An intriguing subject altogether. But that is certainly where the resemblance to myself ends - not claiming the musical genius!

I had such an inspiring time in France recently at the Chantilly Arts & Elegance 2024. The sublime Château de Chantilly and its art collections is about 50 kms from Paris.

Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli (1920-1995)   There is little need for me to introduce Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, one of the greatest pianists and musicians of all time.  I have been listening to a remarkable live recording of a concert he gave in Warsaw in 1955. His Bach/Busoni Chaconne from the Partita in D minor No.2 BWV 1004 is surely one of the greatest ever recorded.   Michelangeli's    knowledge and command of the piano as an instrument was unequaled, permitting his soul and ours to take unhindered flight. Elisey Mysin recital - XVII International Piano Forum - Bieszczady Without Borders - Sanok, Poland

Astounding musical experiences a lways happen i n Poland! Has been happening to me for as I long as I began visiting the country to work in 1992. The astonishing recital by the child prodigy  Elisey Mysin   I watched online last night prompted me to write this review immediately. It was broadcast from the International Piano Forum, a Polish musical event now in its seventeenth year. The Forum (lectures and concerts) is held in the town of Sanok (the 'capital' of the remote Bieszczady Region). I knew or know nothing about this remarkable Forum until last night.  The concert was  'In Memoriam Tatiana Shebanova',  that magnificent Russian pianist who died so tragically of leukemia in 2011 whilst at her pianistic peak.
